Last summer, kids throughout the state read 248,901 books and spent 55,831 hours reading. This year, we are challenging Georgia to top last year’s numbers by reading more than 250,000 books and spending over 60,000 hours reading.

Here’s how you can get reading, right now

Check out this short video with your students for tips on finding and reading great books on myON. Then follow these simple steps to access the myON platform.

1.    Visit http://about.myon.com/GetGAReading  to get registered. Under the Job Title field, type in: Reader. Once you have registered, instructions on your county-specific log-in will be sent to you within 24 – 48 hours.
2.    Go to myON.com and click the Log In Now button.
3.    Enter the following information:

  • School Name: Get Georgia Reading, Georgia Campaign for Grade Level Reading (Note: DO NOT cut and paste. Start typing “Get Georgia…” and select the school from the drop-down menu.)
  • Username: included in registration instructions
  • Password: included in registration instructions

4.    Click on the Sign In button, select a book, and start reading!

Bulloch County Schools is conducting an online parent survey for its Title I schools now through May 12.  All of the school system's campuses, except Statesboro High School and Southeast Bulloch High School are Title I schools. If you have a child at any of our 13 Title I schools, we encourage you to participate in this survey. If you prefer to complete a paper survey instead, one can be made available to you by contacting your school's family liaison.

Title I provides federal funding to help supplement educational opportunities for children who live in high poverty areas who are most at risk of failing to meet state achievement standards. Title I funds programs that help ensure all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach a minimum proficiency on state academic achievement standards and assessments.

Parents/Guardians:

It is always our goal as a school to partner with you by asking for input to make you feel welcome, valued, and connected to each other and our school staff while contributing to student success! Your participation is greatly appreciated and solicited to participate in this online survey.

http://www.gadoe.org/Curriculum-Instruction-and-Assessment/Special-Education-Services/Pages/Parent-Survey.aspx

The Parent Satisfaction Survey helps the state to determine parents’ perception of the success of parent engagement with the local schools. The information is gathered as a component of the State Performance Plan. The data collected are reported in the Annual Performance Report and on the system profile about each system. Each state is required to conduct a parent survey collection process to measure parent/family needs and perceptions.

From Mr. Yawn:

I am sending, with a list of upcoming events, a reminder that students are not allowed to "charge" their lunches after five days.  Please, check the status of your child's lunch account balance.  I do not want anyone to be turned away because of an excessive balance.  In addition, remember that balances accrued at other campuses follow the student's account.

Online Account

The easiest way to manage a lunch account is to pay online using myschoolbucks.com.  There is even a free mobile application for your Smart Phone.

You may also drop by the school or call our cashier.  She can be reached via email at broberts@bullouchschools.org or by calling 212-8820.  It is a great idea to check behind your middle school student if you sent them with money.

The Northrop Grumman Foundation has announced that William James Middle School is one of 25 public middle school semifinalists in its Fab School Labs STEM Lab Makeover contest. To secure the funds, WJMS supporters will need to vote for the school online on Friday, Dec. 9. This is part of a week-long online voting campaign for each finalist, with WJMS being scheduled for this date. The funds would allow WJMS to renovate and upgrade its existing STEM lab into a state-of-the-art science lab.  Amy Smith, the school's STEM teacher was instrumental in preparing WJMS's application. SWSS, formerly known as Investing in Education Excellence (IE2), is one of four flexibility options available to Georgia’s public school systems.

Parents, who plan on attending the meeting, can request free, on-site childcare. The school system’s family liaisons are coordinating this service for children ages birth to 12 years old. Please call 912-212-8553 or email sharper@bullochschools.org by Jan. 25 to register your child.

GA-DOE-300x224.png
Bulloch County Schools encourages parents to participate in the Georgia Department of Education’s (GaDOE) annual Georgia Parent Survey. This survey, along with the Georgia Student Health Survey II and the Georgia School Personnel Survey, gives parents, students and school system employees an opportunity to offer feedback about the climate and safety of our local schools. Parents have until Feb. 26, to complete the online survey, at www.bulloch.k12.ga.us.

Responses are anonymous and submitted directly to GaDOE for analysis. Results will become part of each school’s Climate Star Rating on the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), Georgia’s accountability system that rates schools and school districts on a 100-point scale. Participation in all the surveys is voluntary; however, at least 75 percent of each school’s employees and 75 percent of each school’s students must participate in their respective surveys to receive a Climate Star Rating.

The Bulloch County Health Department will host Influenza (Flu) clinics in our schools beginning Monday, October 26 through early November. Public health agencies recommend an annual Flu vaccine for everyone six months of age and older.

Flu vaccines are usually available in nasal spray (FluMist) and shot form; however, due to an unforeseen production delay this year, most area providers have limited quantities of FluMist available. For this reason, children who typically receive FluMist, may receive a Flu shot instead. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's school. You may also contact your primary care provider about their FluMist availability.

There are sufficient quantities of the Flu shot for all of our school Flu clinics. The Flu shot and FluMist are equally effective.

The Bulloch County Health Department has scheduled the exact dates of each school's clinic. Watch for more information from your child's school about your school's Flu clinic date.

Children must have a completed and signed consent form to participate. For elementary school students, the BCHD sent consent forms home with students. For middle and high school students, the consent forms are available from the school nurse. For more information, contact the BCHD at 1-855-473-4374.

On November 18th, the cans were collected and totaled.  More than 670 cans were donated in all and will be given to the food bank.  Also, Mrs. Carter’s class, with 161 cans, won the pizza party!  Because of the generous donations, needy families in the area will have a very happy Thanksgiving!
